MY FEEDBACK
Thanks guys. I'd love to go out and riding on JM's back sounds almost too good to pass up. Unfortunately I'm confined to my home until next Friday at the earliest.
You are all sick in the head. How can you shoot those poor defenseless little creatures. What did they ever do to you?....... Is what I WOULD say if I was a tree huggin, Obama voting, granola eating, dreadlock sporting, pot smoking, Birkenstock wearing, vegan, leftist barista. But as I'm not...I say nice shooting. I'll be trying to smoke a few prairie dogs myself on Saturday. Say a prayer to the good Lord that I can exterminate the entire population in the area.

That's far enough pilgrim......You're molesting my hunt!
If you ever want to take a someone who hasn't had the opportunity to exterminate those little bastards, I'm your guy.![]()
Here's 2 that I got this weekend. Crappy conditions...wind blah blah...
first with my 300 whisper. 175gr smk at about 1600fps.
Second was with my 6x45 75gr vmax at about 2700fps
The whisper was dead on at 150yds, just 1 shot on that guy. My 6x45 worked well, had 3 kills, but we would of had to haul our happy asses another 100yds out...we said fuck it.

You shoot the cute ones too?! We only blast the fugly ones! JK, the cuter the better!
We started off the morning with some close range kills at about 85 yards, including a few with my newly zeroed Nikon Prostaff Rimfire on my Marlin XT-22, (DEAD-on @ 100 yards all day). Yeah, the winds made the further ones a waste of ammo.
By noon, however, the winds died down some and I tagged one at over 300 yards by shooting just ahead of him as disappeared from view into some brush! Steps suggested we go mobile, and that's when thing really got hopping! Literally! I saw a set of ears in the brush about 150 yards away and took another "blind" shoot, aiming where I thought the rest of the target was. The end result was a devastating head shot. Yeah, I have photos, but I don't want to stir up the hive as I've done here in the past.
To make a long story short, Steps and I exterminated (25) vermin in total in less than (7) hours. The secret this weekend was to keep moving. Kind of like ice fishing. Fish the honey hole while its hot, but don't be afraid to go mobile if things slow down. Especially with the wind. The conditions can change even just 100 yards away.
When targets are out to 150 yards and under, the smaller calibers shine with HV HP ammo. My .22 LR "thumped" many a target with some surprising terminal ballistics. Steps's .22 hornet was VERY impressive, blowing a golf ball sized hole out the side of one at about 100 yards! Past 100 yards, and my usual "secret recipe" .223 load thru my Remy 700 scattered the fields with hawk fodder. I've never seen so many in one area! We must have fed an entire colony that day!

MY FEEDBACK
That was our best day yet for sure!
I just ordered my shell holder and dies for the .22 Hornet. I also picked up 250 40 Grain Nosler B-Tip Boat Tail projectiles for it. Let the fun begin!![]()
Bringing a new boomstick to the prairies. Just finished mounting the one piece rail and Redfield Accu-Ranger Varmint scope. The plan is still to use the Remy 700 .223 for targets inside of 300 or so, and the new Savage 22-250 Model 11 beyond that. (Yeah, I took the sticker off the stock...)

MY FEEDBACK
Pardon the probably ignorant question, but why is everyone so dead set against P-dogs? Don't get me wrong, blast away all you want, I've just never seen a reason to kill a critter that hasn't even bit me in the leg yet unless I'm really (really!) hungry and King Poopers is closed...or its a bunny eating my lawn, but that's a different story...
Disclamer: I only hug trees after they've been properly cut and dried and are suitable for use in the shop...
