There's a finite amount of local and regional fuel storage and when the infrastructure breaks down over a bigger area, and the local reserves get used up, that diesel delivery won't be so regular.
FWIW, AAA Colorado used to be a client and their infrastructure kinda sucked. Pretty sure they also only have one genset, and we all know that 2 is 1, and 1 is none.
I believe that only CNG is going to survive long term as a viable - renewable - and easily transportable, self-sustaining to it's own infrastructure, fuel.
For the average Joe, you're fucked because retail pumping stations aren't going to have power to deliver the fuel to your tank.
