Did you put alcohol around the top? That helps heat up the alcohol in the can so you can burn off the fumes.

Lots of alcohol everywhere. After filling it, I poured alcohol all over and just lit the puddle. It burned nicely until all the fuel on the top and the floor was used, then it went out.

91% rubbing alcohol. It burns great in the one version and makes a nice little flame when you light a puddle on the floor.
