I know this is slightly off topic - but why not just get an Android phone with no plan and a copy of Stelock? Much much cheaper.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

Strelock is (or was) available for Windows Mobile devices (that is what the Trimble is) but is no longer supported.
There are a few others too.

You can get an older Android (check craigslist) - and just hook it up to a home wireless network to download from the Google Play store. Its not super rugged - but for the price you can put an otter box on it and make it pretty tough -- for way cheaper than a Nomad (at least for the Nomads I was ever looking at $800+)
You could also get an otterbox for your ipod. I knew of a contractor in Afg do did that with good success.

While Strelok seemed to work well, when talking android, I'd skip it in favor of Shooter, I've got both and Shooter is just a lot nicer with the bullet library it has and the ability to run tables with just changing the DA to print out cards for on your rifle so you don't HAVE to be running the device for every situation.
Hbar, if you do like asmo says, there's some "ruggedized" android phones out there that hold up to abuse well. If you google "gorilla grass" that's a must have on any phone that needs to hold up to some abuse. The motorola's used it exclusively for a long time, now it's pretty much standard on the new smart phones. Before I got a smart phone I'd destroy regular phones inside of a year almost without fail. My Droid X2 lasted more than 2 years before the hardware itself was pretty much obsolete for handling the newer apps (not ballistics apps some others I use) and it would bog down badly. But if you can pick one up used for a good price, slap it in an otter box and turn all the other shit off it will do the job very well.
Also, honestly I've considered picking up an ipod touch to do the exact same thing with it. Mainly for use with Ballistics AE which is only available for apple OS based devices and it's probably the nicest of the ballistics apps out there. So you might want to shop around for a hard core case for that iPod and some good screen protectors.
