In addition to what Wulf202 and Hatidua wrote:

I also add about 8’ of duct tape rolled around a pen, some para cord, heavy fishing line (mostly for a clothes line). In my first aid kit I carry: pills for stomach problems, different OTC pain meds, Benadryl. I also have itch, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal creams. (creams, because ointments are bad in places that rub). Prescription antibiotics for my wife and I. Usually Cipro because it is a good multi spectrum anti-biotic and it is very shelf stable.

My wife used to think I was crazy until my kit helped save the day on multiple occasions.

Use bug spray and use it often. We were in the Dominican Republic in September and a German man got lymphatic filariasis, bad stuff, from a mosquito bite. He was in the hospital and was really sick for several days. Most third world countries make you pay for the hospital in cash before they treat you. They don’t always have a ready supply of medications either.

    Lessons learned every time.

Just like at home, don’t make yourself a target by getting trashed/drunk, breaking their laws (especially drug laws), acting a fool, being disrespectful, being an A&&#0!% or dressing like you have gobs of money. They already know you are much wealthier than they are, so don’t rub it in their faces.

These go a real long ways with ALL people: Be respectful, courteous, humble and remember you are a guest in THEIR country.

Have a safe trip and let us know what a great time you had when you get back.

Just be cool and don't draw attention to yourself.

Even if she's really cute, don't go back to her hut. If you plan to partake in the local crop, bring plenty of cash, they do random road side searches. And don't buy it on the beach!

Predators watch their prey before they attack, they do not normally attack other predators if there is easier prey.
Develop the attitude and behavior of a predator, not an aggressive attitude but a confident one. Situational awareness is key.
Stay sober and stay out of dark alleys.

Traveled all over Asia without incident while friends got mugged sometimes just blocks away.
