I saw this at my uncle's house (in his garage) over Thanksgiving, and I was very intrigued for when I get my own house. Right now, I wouldn't do the work because we're renting.

It appears as though he installed a 12" wide piece of OSB, probably about 10'-12' long on the bottom with notches cut out, to sit in the trusses and just lean up against the ones that are angled forward toward the front of the garage which would be the top of the picture. Then he put in another, a couple more feet wide with notches cut out on the top side and it just rests on the 12" piece. I'm sure they are nailed down once in place. Them he's got OSB laying across the bottom trusses with notches cut out at the joints to form kind of a small storage room up there. Directly behind the garage door opener is a pull-down ladder. I don't remember right now if the other side is closed in too, or if it's open and just closed up in the front to block view from the front.

*maybe it's not OSB actually, looks like real wood. I dunno.
