Default Honda generator needs some TLC

I have a Honda 3500W generator that has been neglected (by me). Out of pure laziness and failing memory it has sat for 5 or six years with gas in it. I just realized I failed to drain the fuel before storage and I know the carburator will be gummed up.
Is there something like mineral spirits I can try to run through it by turning it over without trying to start it or should I just pack it up and take it to a Honda dealer?

I bought a used generator a while back, that had been similarly neglected. I think I paid about $35 online for a new carb, and it fired right up. Easy.

All you have to do is remove the carb. Take it a part and clean it with a spray can of carb cleaner and a tooth brush. Make sure the needle and jet are good and clean. Also the area the float hinges on.

Steal an old bread pan to take it apart in.

Anymore I don't even remove the carb. I just pull it apart in place and clean it like that. You'll see an amber liquid run off when you find the gunned up spots.

Let us know how it goes. As long as the floats operate the small valve and the jets are clean, it will do fine. If you get in a pinch, take pics for us to be able to ridicule/help you.
