I was just thinking about this earlier today... I was reading a bunch of stuff about the whole Robertson fiasco and thought back to 2001. Remember after 9/11 how our nation came together as one? Everyone waved their flags, stickers and those yellow ribbons adorned nearly every car. Fast forward just a few years and we've become the most split I've seen in my nearly 30 years of being alive. In my lifetime I cannot recall a time where being "American" has ever been something to be disgraceful about, yet some out there would try to convince you that we shouldn't be proud of our nation, our history, and our heritage. Sure our country has done some messed up stuff, but that all pales in comparison to all the good we've done throughout the last 2 1/2 centuries (You're welcome Europe, since you know, only one country speaks German). Further, why are we so divided over all this petty shit? He doesn't like gays? SO FREAKING WHAT!? She wants to get an abortion? OH MY GOD, who cares? I hate to quote a d-bag celebrity, but Jay-Z did have one really good line: "What you eat doesn't make me shit." Why can't we just move on from these petty squabbles and move forward toward a better, more united, more patriotic nation? It seems like so many want to bad mouth this country, then turn around and be hypocrites and not leave it if they don't love it.
