Interesting galleries. Except for the first pics in the Carolina swamps the others look like they could be of folks I know up in Ward or Gold Hill, Paonia or Buford.
There's a big advantage to having a getaway place that's within reasonable distance from where you live and work. Do you really want a place in bumfuz wyoming that takes 9 hours to get there and 9 more to get back? How often will you be able to go there and work on/invest in it. There are lots of affordable places within reasonable distance along the Front Range.
Fixing a place where you can live off the grid is good but there's much to be said for having electricity, running water and gas heat. Makes for a much more efficient, comfortable life. Self sufficiency, you bet! Gardening, hunting, preparing and storing your own food, firewood and other provisions are life sustaining skills. But to willingly give up benefits of electricity when it's available and cheap? That's just....well, not for me.

montana has some dirt cheap land if you look around. idaho too. there are places in colorado and wyoming you just have to look close and they aren't going to be highly desirable, which isn't completely a bad thing since most of us want to be secluded and not have lots of neighbors. ive considered getting a decent place to camp on and build a small cabin out there. it doesn't have to be much really if you are just wanting to survive. to be comfortable is a different thing.
I've only seen the first picture, but I'm already intrigued that the guy canoes to Tae Kwando practice.
