Readjust the die for less contact on the shell plate. I had to dick around with mine 3-4 x before it was right. I had the same results as you, what a head pounder. The finished case - case gauge was no where near in spec. Once i stepped back for a day or two, it was easier to set up.
Slightly OT, i ran in to an issue with the die coming loose, AFTER i spent more time than i wanted to get it right. I used one of the dillon die locking nuts under the tool head along with one on top. That trimmer doesn't move , finally.
