I connected to that last night, Unfortunately my microphone was not set up on my computer properly as I do not use a microphone all the time. Bob (who after researching the Denver radio Club who owns the repeater) seemed a little peeved that I connected and he couldn't hear me. So I quit trying to troubleshoot to get it to work.

I also wasn't too happy that he recited my whole name and address over the airwaves after he couldn't hear any of my responses. That wasn't very nice.

What? Did you get a callsign? Bob doesn't own the repeater, the Club owns it. There are a couple Bob's in the club, so I can't call them out on this. Callsign would be great if you have it.

I misspoke, Bob who is the Membership officer. KC0CZ I e-mailled him and told him I was sorry for not testing before connecting. I found the test server after the ordeal. I thought it was working because I could hear the echo of what I was saying in my headset... Ahh well. He did reply to me with a couple echolink learner net times that I can listen in on. I'll do that I guess.

I wouldn't worry about it. I could tell his agitation, I just didn't agree with him saying "KD0___, on ###### _____ street in Aurora, you know it isn't proper to connect and not say anything."

His reply to my e-mail was pleasant so I think we are cool now. I'll chalk it up to a learning experience. I don't know anyone in the hobby... so everything I have learned I have done on my own... I am bound to make mistakes it is "Amateur Radio Service" after all. I'm over it.

If you guys don't mind posting up times when you will be reaching out, I wouldn't mind tuning in from where ever I'm at to see if I can hear as well. I've basically been listening to and from work the past few days.

When I try to add city frequencies, I don't hear anything. Is this because they are encrypted or I'm just tuning in when it is quiet?

Encryption is generally not allowed on Amateur Frequencies.

I recently drove into my garage with my antenna attached. I am unable to do much without buying a new antenna at this point. because I don't usually have my Baofengs in the car.

Yeah, that, sorry, I am multitasking and didn't understand your post... I read it again and now get what you were saying. Yes most of the city freqs are trunked.


Program the FRS/GMRS/MURS frequencies in your baofeng... you will hear all kinds of stuff like drive throughs, the crane operator at the new VA hospital is GMRS channel 3, and some school bus conversations.

You still need a license to talk GMRS when not using a walmart 2-way radio.

I ran across those channels on Radio Reference. I'll have to write down some of the GMRS stuff and see what I can hear.

You can join into non-broadcast chats, and I think there is a way to set up permissions so that not anyone off the street can join in and listen. But when you link to a repeater, then yep, anyone can hear you.

Ick, got to love hams that do their best to run guys out of the hobby. Havent heard too many nice things about that club. Biggest thing you guys need to do, is use the firewall test. It will let you know if you need to tweak your router or not. That often times is the source of headaches with the program. I'm going to log onto echolink, once on, I'll post my node # so anyone wants to verify their setup works, they can.
