My wife and I have both taken spleify's class and it is well worth it...the most valuable part is the range time after class room instruction.

I just took the free "guns for everyone" class to get my CCW renewed after 10 years (you have to take a class every ten years to renew). If funds allowed I would have gone with Leif and J but funds are tight as hell, and this was a renewal for me - not my first run through - so I took the cheapest way out to renew. My wife is interested in getting her CCW and Leif and J will be my choice for her for sure.

With that said, here's what I saw at the free class: you will get a valid certification for a permit. However, the class was rudimentary at best. There was lots of joking around, which made it kinda fun but this is serious stuff. Maybe a little less humor would be more appropriate.

The instructor seemed to know what he was talking about, but I came away with nothing new. Maybe it's because I've been through another instruction before, been carrying for 10 years and read this board almost daily, but I was hoping to get SOMETHING out of it. I really didn't. For those absolutely new to guns, this class might have SOME value, but seriously consider spending the money on a thorough course.

I think range time is critical for a new shooter as well. This was said to be optional when I signed up this course, but it was never even mentioned during the class. To be fair, the class ended at 9:30PM, so maybe it just wasn't possible, but you could always meet the next day at the range.

This organization doesn't charge anything, but it survives on donations. Anyway, that's my trip report. I hope I didn't ruffle any feathers here.
