FWIW Thought I'd mention I went Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. Nice facility & great staff. As expected there were a lot of folks on the weekend & it was kinda fun to watch the ROs herd cats & be pleasant while doing so.

Only used range 4 to zero on paper & then hit some steel on the hill. Range finder said 120 to 440. Nice I could do both from one bench. Spotting scope for $5 day was a convenience & appreciated.

*Nice fellow next to me offered a bullpup opportunity & of course I said yes please. That was new & fun. Thank you Sir.*

Again, the ROs did a great job of herding the dawdlers when the range was cold, very punctual. HOT range times were a bit brief for my liking but all & all two good mornings.

Just wanted to share my experience, we drove down back in May to do a short road-trip around the springs area and stopped here for a morning shoot session. Check in is at the first building you see when you drive in, then you get back in your cars and go to your assigned range location. It's quite a large facility.

Once we were on range.. it went downhill from there. The range officer on duty at the range we were assigned to was the most sexist person I've ever spoken to. He made several quite offensive "jokes" about my female significant other, who is just as competent a shooter as myself. They have a 10 minute cold 20 minute hot rule which is synchronized with all the ranges. During the 10 minute cold session, I was placing a target at 25yds, and walking to it and back with plenty of time to spare, and the RO yelled at me that I needed to be running back and forth to the target carrier. (??) I'd rather not break my ankle needlessly running on the muddy uneven range.

The last straw was when I was ordered to pickup casings that were stuck in the mud beyond the firing line that had obviously been there before we were there, while all the other shooters on the range were standing around bullshitting and not cleaning up weeks old casings themselves. I think this facility is amazing, but the terrible experience with the RO left me not loving it.

I think I know which RO you're talking about, and he's a giant bell-end that needs a pop in the mouth (older guy who loves his carbs?). There are a few pretty cool RO's there, or at least there were. In general, I no longer drive the 15 min to shoot there since I'm now a member at Royal Gorge Gun Club. It's a bit more of a drive, being in Canon City, but it's big boy rules (no RO's on site, usually) and WAY better facilities for actually shooting (good ranges, a lot of steel, and 2 other people on the entire range complex is a busy day). Member only though, but they should have some openings. Their membership is fiscal year style and not prorated.

If you are interested in RGGC, give em a call:

I have spent more than a few days @ the CMSC facility. I know every RO by name save one (who I believe is on this forum, we just haven't met in person) & I have nothing but praise for each. Not once has an RO, or Rob for that matter, ever been anything but polite & professional, period.

    * I'm adding that each of those gentlemen are active or retired Military & not there to be friends or even friendly imo. That they babysit every level of competence so that I dont have to suffer a public range idiot parade is a bonus & wholly a necessity.

Still, I'm sorry your experience was other than mine. Rob is approachable & genuine, please speak to him & help make future experiences better for everyone.

Then they must have gotten rid of the former USAF fatass old guy with bad jokes before you started going.

CN I think you're forgetting about the potty mouth guy that was there last summer. I dunno if he's still there.

I don't remember him. Nope, don't think I had the pleasure.

Are you certain he was there when we went shooting in September, or just was working around the time?
