I've done a bunch of work on ours over the last 14 years or so...no heater, but a control board, circulation pump, etcetera.

I've had to replace one of the motors and I replaced the heater a couple years ago. Those were pretty easy to diagnose. Now it seems it could be the high limit swich, pressure switch or thermostat. Hoping not to just start replacing part after part until fixed.
It seems like you should be able to jumper the high limit switch to rule that out, and do something similar with the thermostat pickup (maybe disconnect for that one, depending on how it reads).

continuity or ohlm test all the parts. All listed should tone out assuming the t stat is calling for heat.
How have you been on checking the chemicals?
If lax it's likely the heating element itself. Isolate and drain that then continuity test it.
This thing does not get heavy use. We use it maybe 6 to 8 times a month October through February. I pulled the heating element in January and it looked just like it did 2 years ago when I replaced it and it tested good. Back then when I turned it from auto to timed the element heated up then tripped the high limit switch. I then thought it was a flow issue so I removed the filter and let it run. Got temp up to 80 or so but next morning back down. Looked at it again today a little but haven't been able to duplicate last month's results. Was just hoping someone could give me a logical 1, 2, 3 list of parts to swap out or come over and fix the fucker.
whats the water level? yes it's an odd ?. However if it at or below the jets you could be getting air pockets. Our tub would kick off and or cycle weird. After looking at everything. I decided to check what the H2O level was. Sitting it was good. Once it went to a circ mode it was low enough to cause issues. Topped it off and no issues.

Could be several issues with flow. After Jim's water level check. Open the pump and check the impeller for clogs or damage. Cutoff jeans will trash it quick.
Without being able to duplicate the issue it's impossible to troubleshoot even if I'm there. Could be any of the parts mentioned.
