In our 7 year old house I've gone through 2 microwaves and 2 dishwashers. Our Maytag dishwasher shit the bed after 1 year and a couple months. Went through $100.00 in fuses, then had the motor and pump replaced and it worked for a month and now it looks like the circuit control board needs replaced - at almost the cost of a new machine. I absolutely wouldn't buy another Maytag if my life depended on it. Just my experience. Don't know if I'm jinxed or not, our FridgidAir fridge is still going strong though. It's probably all a crap shoot, but the ex. warrantees are definitely something to be considered.
