Default Problem: Gerber Edge. Anyone else have this happen?

Okay this thing is 12 bucks, but I really like it, I use it daily... why use my edc to open boxes and utility stuff when I can use a replacable blade?

It opens with one hand, does not slip, closes with one hand. When in my back pocket the closed blade is against the statched pert of my pocket, so when I go reac hing for it I don't stick my hand into a pocket with an open razor blade.

The other day I was running speaker wire, granted it was a little bigger than I should have been cutting with a knife, but hey I had the thing in my pocket and I have a habit now of reaching for my Gerber edge whenever something needs cut. Looped the speaker wire, put knife in loop and begin to tug at the wire to cut.

It cut the wire alright, a little extra resistance, but what happened is the blade released on its own and became a sailing shuriken and stuck right into the stud about 10 feet away. I figured some people here use these daily and was wondering if this is an occurance that someone else has experienced.

I'm going to e-mail gerber to see mayb if I need to adjust anything. I did try it again this time not to the point of cutting through the wire, and noticed the blade release was actuating on its own releasing the blade as pressure was being exerted on the blade by the wire being cut.

All of the folding utility knives with quick release blades ive had do that. Put a big slice in my hand trying to rapidly score a small piece of wood and the blade stuck into the wood. On the next pass the other side got me.

Carried a lightweight gerber folding utility knife for a long time until the screw stripped out that locks the blade in. Looked around town for a replacement. Ill have to order it. Small handle makes it so I dont apply alot of force.

Carried the Husky version when I worked and yeah it's common with that combo thumb stud/release button.

Ahh okay so maybe I just have to learn the limitations of it then. I was just so bummed because it is probably the best $9.54 that I have spent, and I don't have to beat up my regular knife with utility cuts.
