Default Water PRE filtration. Before it goes into your filter. Anyone thought of or tried this?

Bubble bags. Evidently they are for making dope. I saw them in the farm and garden section of craigslist and looked them up on amazon. Now, I know you could use a t-shirt, cheese cloth, just about any fabric for less money. I like the idea of a dedicated item for the job. Plus different microns of filtration between the bags. And set up for 5 gallon buckets.

8 bags for $43 doesnt seem bad.

What do you guys think? I had no idea they were for anything nefarious.

I have at least one Crown berkey to use them for. Plus the homemade 5 gallon bucket "berkey" filters. I thought if you were getting water it would be easy to dump the entire 5 gallon bucket into the bag and into another 5 gallon bucket. Assuming you are using something that large.

I've not bothered running it through filter cloth but have let water settle to remove larger sludge. Green river is quite muddy so we'd fill pots at night then filter them the next morning for the day's drinking water.

Depending on the turbidity of the water source pre-filtration or settling is necessary.

Depending on how permanent your set-up is, you can go very elaborate. Not the best video I've seen, but can't find what I'm looking for on short notice.

Tons of ways to prefilter. Tie a leg off in a pair of old pants, you can send the savings to me.

Interesting idea but for pre filtering drinking water I suspect it's a sketchy product. A first clue is the colored (dyed) cloth. There's no mention of the type of material, of it being made of food grade material, or of it being safe for pre filtering water. Not that it wouldn't be useful in an emergency but at that price, a simple $2 white nylon strainer bag might be a better choice. Strainer funnels and mesh bags are sold at homebrew stores that are food grade. They work well to filter out solids.

Sewing material stores sell a variety of nylon mesh by the yard that you can cut to fit your application whether for straining liquids or keeping insects off drying food.
