    Default Long Range Locations

What is yout favorite place to shoot? I just got into long range shooting but can't find anywhere to go that is over 100yds and doesnt require a membership. Does anyone have any good BLM locations?

I have been looking for something like blm to go set up my gongs. Haven't had much luck finding anyplace close to the springs. All that prairie land out east and its all private property. Wish I new someone who would let me shoot my steel. I typically go to Cheyenne mountain shooting complex but it gets boring shooting at the same steel targets all the time. I would be happy with anything out to 800.

The Chafee county range at Buena Vista isnnice. Steel from about 200 to a 1000 and its free. Bit of a drive though.

The NRA Whittington down in Raton has a nice 1,000 yard range. May be quite a drive for some of you guys in the Denver/Springs areas but should be worth the drive to find a range where even .50 BMG's are welcome.

As info the 1K range down there is closed right now for renovation. But the high-power silhouette range is still open and you can run any non-magnum that's not 22 centerfire there.

XC7, glad you mentioned the 1,000 range being currently closed as I was thinking of heading down there to fire off a few .50 BMG rounds next week.

Looks like they are making some nice enhancements to the range so while short term painful, I think it will be a nice update when it's done.

Membership to the Raton range only costs an annual colonic.

Frontier Sportsman's Club just south of Colorado Springs has the land and has the firing berm built, but it looks like it is going to be a few more years before the 1k range gets finished. They do have ranges up to 300yds (with dozens of shooting lanes), 100+ pistol lanes, and a 50yd x 50yd and a 50yd by 100yd "informal shooting area" with high berms on 3 sides for whatever you wish to do - great for training.

    Here is their website: http://frontiersportsman.org/home/
