    Default Woodpeckers

Anyone here have to deal with Woodpeckers ?

No Bert not that kind of Woodpeckers............

I woke up this morning at about 0630, to what sounded like the neighbor was building a fence, a constant slow banging sound similar to someone not too handy with a hammer trying to build something.
After about 3 hours of this, I went into the spare bedroom to look out the window to see who was attempting some home owner repairs.
Lo and behold, there was a Woodpecker perched low and between the double windows pecking away at the wood trim. I opened a window and it startled & flew away.
I went outside and found that there are 3 quarter sized holes where that damn bird was perched, and a multitude of pin holes surrounding the bottom 1/4 of one of the windows.
Does anyone know if the Woodpecker will return ? And what can I do to keep it away ?
this Is the first time in the almost 10 years of living here that I have even seen or heard of Woodpeckers in this Hood.

throw something to keep the bird off that area, like some chimes flowers etc. You could also spray them with a vinegar water mix, till they get the message.

Only thing you can't do is kill them. For some reason it's another "protected" rat with feathers.

Kind of hard to put flowers in the area, second floor windows. If the pest returns I'll put wind chimes up there and spray the area with vinegar & water.
Guess I'll have fill the larger holes with wood putty and paint fill the pinholes when I paint over the putty.

You could try a rubber toy snake.

I'm trying to remember if that works for woodpeckers.....

Spray the pecker, not the windows.

    • Aluminum foil strips or reflective tape, such as Irri-Tape, manufactured by Bird-X, hung from areas where damage occurs may scare away woodpeckers. The strips should be long enough to hang freely and blow in the breeze.

Woodpecker deterrent hole filler is a natural deterrent. It is a resin-repair system which is used to repair wood structures damaged by woodpeckers. When a woodpecker pecks any area which has been repaired by this hole-filler, it meets with an awful smell and taste, which makes it go away sooner than later.

My college roommate would make an "owl" out of a cereal box and hang it from the gutter. Basically just a scary bird-like creature to hang outside.

I guess you could get a wily coyote...wait, that's for roadrunners, not woodpeckers...

hang an CD with fishing line from the eve or something where it can spin and the shiny will scare them away.
