Oklahoma hogs

I'm traveling to Oklahoma soon to hunt hogs on private land.

I've never hunted in Oklahoma, and I've never hunted hogs before.

Any tips or pointers or comments? I see my CO CCW is valid, although open-carry is not permitted.

I'm still working the kinks out of my Remington 700ti in 260 Remington, so I'll be bringing a 270 WSM with a 3.5-10x scope.

Trying not to spend a lot of money up-front. Maybe learn something this first trip and buy the "perfect" gear for next time. I'd love an excuse to buy the new Marlin 1895 SBL.

Never hunted hogs yet but I really want to. That said, I have no further advice for you than to have fun!

That Marlin would be a winner for hogs. I got a 94 in 44mag that has put the smack down on them hogs in GA. OK might be more open than what I'm use to for hog huntin. I'd think any of the guns you mentioned with a medium powered scope would do. Hogs can't see to well or hear. Their nose is their defense. Have fun!

That gun will work. I hunted twice in OK near Rush Springs. They love the thick stuff. Almost like hunting cotton tails back east. They are mostly noctural and will start coming out around dusk to root in the fields. Good shot placement is a must. Their vitals are tucked in down low compared to other animals.

never hunted OK, but coming from FL have killed alot.. mostly with a .22 one shot behind the ear. don't mess up no BBQ or pork chops,, in hogs Bigger ain't better. We like the 120 #'s over 200 and you get alot of sausage.

We have been using 6.8s equipped with NVDs and the 85gr Barnes TSX in Texas.

It was wet -- rained every day, and had been raining for ~2wks prior to our arrival. Lots of water everywhere.

At least it was cool. Highs in the upper 60's, low 70's. Would have been pretty miserable if it were hotter with that much humidity.

Didn't see a lot of sign the first couple of days. On the last day we finally stumbled across some. Our host had us posted on one end while he walked through. Never actually saw one, but he kicked up a "gilt" and killed it for us with his Savage Model 99e lever-action in 308 Win.

Well, that stinks that you didnt actually get to shoot any. You'll have to let us know how the meat came out (texture, tenderness, flavor).
