The wife and I just had a Pella window installed in the kitchen and a slider. Expensive but worth it. The guys did a great job installing, finished with custom trim to fit in the jacked up place they are in. We looked around and the guys at Pella won the vote.

We went to "the Pella Store", the guy came out to give us a quote, and we both shit down both legs. Same with Andersen.

Then we went to Lowes and priced them, they were far, far less. Plus we caught a sale on installation, at $99 per window. Don't remember the prices but we saved huge by going through Lowes. Still Pella windows and doors, just not the super high-end stuff. We got the ones with wood frames inside, unfinished. Stained and cleared them, they look awesome.

Unfortunately Norm @ Norco is so busy, he's turning away business. Met with Pella last night and was around $18K.

There is a reason for that. Too bad. He really does need to raise his prices.

Who came out to give you the quote? I could have my Pella rep look it over if you choose to go Pella.

Understandable that you might be uncomfortable about doing a job you're unfamiliar with but you might reconsider, maybe by hiring a framer/contractor to work with you. I replaced seven old aluminum frame windows in my mountain home by myself for a total cost of about $2500. They new windows are Jeld-Wen horizontal vinyl sliders from Home Depot. They are very well made (better than the Weathershield on my house) and the work turned out beautifully. I had never replaced a window before, but just dug into it. All but one were second story windows so I had to use scaffold, which I have. It took time but was easier than I expected. Most are 4' wide of various height, but one I increased the window size to 6' x 4' by re-framing the wall.

It took me 2 weeks but made a dramatic improvement in the house. I still have the big south side view windows to replace, twelve 4' x 4' windows, but I won't hesitate to do that myself when it's time.

A lot of my window openings are really big. Bigger than the ones you're describing. Mulling several windows together is required in several openings.

I'd rather focus my energies elsewhere.

Call Tony with Energy Max Home Improvements. 303-917-8348 tell him Brandon sent you. He did my windows and did a great job. We ended up having Milhard windows put in. They are vinyl, we are happy with the products and it was pretty affordable.
