I really like the 'use of deadly force' laws in TX. It's pretty clear about taking something that doesn't belong to you. It creates a certain level of respect.

We used to joke back in Texas that if you shot an unarmed guy in the back out in your front yard that you were good to go as long as you drug your television out and set it beside him before the cops showed up.

They are especially clear after dark...it's a real bad idea to be on someone else's property without their permission after dark.

The letter of the law is that life is valued more than property- but you could easily feel your life was in danger if they're on your property and you can't tell if they're armed or not.

The difference is in the assumption of who is in the right: the property owner or the trespasser.
