Gardening ID: What is this plant?

Thought I would start this thread. I am sure more folks could get help here with stuff that pops up in the yard and don't know what it is.

It is a legume plant, like a miniature pea. I don't recognize the leaves they are compound leave I think and they are blocky at the end like someone trimmed them.

If I leave them on the vine, the pods turn black, not like they are going bad, but like they are drying out. The pod is very leathery.

Anyone have an idea? I read that some peas could be poisonous?

Sure looks like a wild pea when you google wild pea images. Even the same flower.

Sweet! thanks for the info! The peas are really small... Not sure when to harvest them. I would need a lot to make a difference, but then again... they are ALL OVER the PLACE. They make great ground cover under my blackberries.

Personally, I wouldn't eat those. I can't remember what they are called for the life of me (my wife says sweet pea)...........but I remember years ago seeing them on a job site near the springs, and discussing with the property owner about how they were pretty but spreading like crazy along the rivers and creeks - and I recall looking them up but finding them listed as either noxious or poisonous. Funny that they are in the metro now......another imported weed?

Your post made me look closer... They look like a form of "vetch"?
