    Default Auto body work (paint)

Any members here do this? Had a guy back into my car, needs a new hood which I can order, and the bumper painted. 2000 civic sedan in green.

have to get a quote done then the insurance company will pay me out if I choose not to use the shop I take it to. Just looking at my different options and maybe take some of the money from the quote to put into the mechanical side of it for piece of mind.

would also be good to just buy a used green hood. I'll need to call around unless someone knows of a good spot?

Which insurance company are you dealing with? If it's the other guy's insurance, you should be able to just get a quote and have them cash you out. If it's not your insurance, they don't care if you get the vehicle repaired or not. You can also be cashed out for the cost of a rental (likely only $20 a day) for the amount of days to repair on the estimate.

Good to know, it's the other guys insurance. American family. I've been more than displeased with dealing with them. Took 4 days to get ahold of anybody that could tell me wtf was going on. Then I was basically questioned whether I was stopped or not while I was backed over. And the quote process if a PITA, partly due to my schedule but still. And of course they didn't even offer up a rental car. I'm not driving my new truck to sit at the airport Parking lot in the middle of hail season, let alone the wind which magically snags car doors and leaves dents because idiots don't pay attention.

Yeah, they're going to ask you if you were moving, because if you were moving, it changes everything as far as liability (potentially). They won't offer you a rental if your car is driveable, except for the time it should be in the shop. BUT, you should be able to get into a rental, or be paid for a rental for while the vehicle is in the shop. Or, as we mentioned earlier, if you are going to get cashed out, they can pay you an amount (probably $20/day) for however many days of repair the estimate calls for.

Well, talking to the insurance, I'm going to take the cash payout and find another place to get it done, or just go to pull and pay or somewhere and find a green hood and put it on myself. (If anyone knows where to find a green hood for a 2000 civic VP please let me know.)

as far as the rental car, they say I can cash out for the claim, but not for the rental car. I can get a rental car for the time period the estimate called for or reimbursed for the amount of a rental car from the company I choose up to about $23 a day, but they won't include that amount in the cash pay out.

They don't want to pay you for something they know you aren't getting, but they technically owe you for the rental, regardless of if you actually get one, as the rental cost is part of the repair. You can probably push that issue.
