Chances are your scope will get you to a grand or more, and at those ranges the bullet has so little energy it's very difficult to spot splash in the dirt or even detect hits on steel.
^^^He makes a good point, The one I have is on a wildcat cartridge AR, and it's overkill on that quite honestly.
