    Default Magnetospeed update

I've had access to a Magnetospeed chrono for a year or so. I'd never bothered to go out and confirm the results at long range as I assumed it was pretty good. Dummy. I've done that twice now for two different barrels, and in both cases the MS gave readings about 100fps higher than reality.

    How did you measure reality?
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

I'm assuming here but most likely by taking the rifle/load out to long ranges (1000 yds or so) on paper and walking it in to the correct dope, then putting the atmospheric info along with the actual amount of elevation into a ballistics program to "true" the dope. This typically will back calculate the muzzle velocity and adjust it to what is happening in reality.

The calculation essentially compensates for error in either velocity or BC. Doesn't really matter which you want to consider as your error. But I've found that with certain brands of bullets I have less error which leads me to believe the published BC is where the errors are, more so than the chronograph, but I'm also aware enough to know its most likely some of each.

I'm currently running the newest version of the magneetospeed, so I can't really comment on other versions either but would like to run some side by side tests of mine vs an older generation unit and see what we get.

That's a good explanation. I'm using Brian Litz's G7 BC's, so I have higher confidence in the BC than I do in the results of the chrono. Truing the MV led to a nearly perfect match to the predicted dope.

The MS is still a nice tool for load development, but I no longer trust it to generate good data. Still way better than my old sky screen type chrono.

I too had the same experience using a friends previous generation Magneto, about 80fps fast, confirming at 1200yds.

Look forward to seeing one of these.
