Default Newest new house woes. AC Died.

Assuming it can't be fixed readily. I better figuring out quick suggestions on where and what to look for in a new home ac system.

GF heard a pop she thought other day. By evening noticed temp had climbed and ac unit isn't working. Breaker was tripped it looked like. Reset it today when I got home. Notta, but with ac on the unit every few minutes makes a kinda short loud kinda hum/noise like it's trying to fire up and fails. (Nothing moving).

Already messaged Bryjcom since he's nearby but havnt heard back yet. Might try this Carbon Valley which is nearby and seemingly well rated. But dont know if Im best with a replacement if needed thru the repairman vs picking one out in a store or elsewhere.

Brycom should be able to get you dialed in. But if for some reason he's busy pm me and I will take care of you.

Most likely cause is the start run capacitor.

Pull the side panel on the a.c. look for an oval or round object with two or three wires. If its buldged like a frozen soda its toast. If its plastic cased its not going to bulge.

Be careful there's power in there. And the capacitor can hold its charge.

    Cost is usually under $20

2nd most likely is a locked rotor but requires an amp meter to check. Expensive

Are you looking for a couple AC units to scavenge for parts ? I have one that wouldn't hold a freon charge and have a relative that has one that I don't know what went wrong.
I was saving them to take over to the recycle yard, but lost the motivation to strip them down and sort the different metals.

If you want them, PM me. The price is that you come get them.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.
