I think if they had been complete a-holes, I might have taken some action.

They searched your vehicle based on a dog's belief there were drugs . While dogs do have a good track record. Why the hell you allowed them to do anything without a warrant, is confusing.
The only a-h i'm seeing iis you consenting to a search, AND OFFERING TO ASSIST.

Yo man you forgot the tail lights.

I know you're a newer member, but anyone else mention you can refuse a search? Get out of the car and lock your keys in it, if it's an older vehicle, walk to curb or off shoulder and sit down.

The nice thing about growing older is gaining perspective, and knowing which battles to fight and those to avoid.

But having the dog and handler decertified is not retaliation. When trained dogs are misused they become like any other tool that is misused. People lose confidence in the animal, and it is not the animal's fault.

My response was not just for you, it was for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. Do not argue with the police. The police do not need any reason to walk a dog around your car as long as the stop was legitimate. If the dog is hitting on something that isn't there, then the dog has an issue, or the handler has an issue. Handlers need to know when their dog is working and when their dog is not working. If the handler gets into the bad habit of misusing their partner, then the handler needs to be dealt with.

    Just my $.02.

    Be safe.

    Small bump.

Penske advised me to stop at the first port of entry leaving Colorado. Would you all stop or keep driving? I've looked into it a little; Can my gf and I carry handguns in our cars on our way to the East coast?
I understand I can't drive into DC with firearms but are there any states to avoid?

    Thanks for for the help.

Once out of / not in states that have reciprocity with CO they must be in a locked container. Search the CA thread to see what we did. You're GTG. The traveling in a commercial vehical / truck with hand gun,ICC prohibits it. HOWEVER once through the port of call i'd put it back in OR old reliable a shot gun.

With CO CCWs, I40 should be a good route through reciprocating states all the way to NC.

Safe travels. Keep the goats and pigs alive!
