I don't think you need to be overly complicated with a driveway sensor, because when the door is closed, no one will likely be able to get close enough to trip the sensors anyway.

EDIT: Oops, there were like 10 posts before I got mine in. Looks like you're taken care of at this point.

The plus side is that I have a brand new house and brand new garage door opener....wait for it....made by chamberlain (I really am excited by the text alert thing).
It's an app, but it does run always and alerts your phone.

Keep in mind the video shows the UNIVERSAL package for any opener. There's a sensor that mounts to the door. My link to Amazon is the one for newer Chamberlain openers and includes the WiFi internet gateway and a replacement wifi door panel.

On the off chance you already have an MyQ enabled opener, all you need is the MyQ Internet Gateway.

Hell no. I put my hours into that stupid transmission last month. Now I work on it 10 minutes at a time.

I have a two year old chamberlain opener that has programmable close times. I currently have it set to close after 5 mins of no activity in the garage. Doesn't alarm you or anything, but it prevents the door from accidentally staying open.

Your garage door should already have a IR sensor that keeps it from closing when an object is in the doorway and it turns on the garage door lights if you or some one enters or exits when the garage door lights timed out.
Just rig a 120 VAC buzzer or horn to the opener light circuit, and a switch for when you don't want it sounding.
Open the garage door wait for the Light to time out, most can be set for the time period, then turn on the switch for the alarm. When the sensor beam is broken, the light will come on and the alarm will sound.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.
