The last thing the internet needs is another thread about old StarTek vs new StarTrek.

That would be "geek," please, not 'Nerd.'
My hubby is far more knowledgeable about the Star Wars universe than I; we're both somewhat skeptical about Disney's inevitable betrayal of All Things Canon. The very fact that Lucas is out of the picture is a relief- the movies were getting to be unbearable with the stilted dialogue, wooden acting, ridiculous and unnecessary pseudo-science (the Force, being explained by the presence of midi-chlorians? Did he really think we wouldn't recognize the correlation between midi-chlorians and mitochondria? REALLY? t's almost as insulting as "Unobtainium." /rant over)
I'm hoping it will be good, but I do have to say that I'm concerned they'll give it shades of Pirates of the Caribbean (iiiiinnnnn SSSSSSPAAAAAACCCCEEE!)

I don't know, I know a bunch who liked it. Don't get me wrong, there are aspects of the reboot I liked. It had excellent humor and action and he tries to pay homage to the original series in a way Rick Berman didn't. The role reversal between Kirk and Spock for the death scene was cute but the explanation for HOW they did it was just stupid and there were TONS of logical inconsistencies. I suppose you can explain away Chekov's and Uhura's ages by saying Nero's first entry into the Star Trek universe 25 years earlier had accelerated their respective parents' meeting but Starfleet giving command of their brand new flagship to a brand new barely-graduated midshipman? In TOS, Kirk got command of the Enterprise at an unprecedentedly young age but he had already proven himself with service on board the Farragut and other ships. He was a known quantity to Starfleet Command.
I'm sure Abrams will have similar inconsistencies in his take on Star Wars but at least the films will be fun again. Episodes 1 and 2 were not fun.
I preferred the reveal trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront.
