Glad you started this thread. Just got an email from a buddy back east, he wants to come out and hunt some yotes.

I've never been, would like to get into it...I'm game to get started with other newbies.

    How do we start?

Didn't get any free time in February to do any hunting. Sent my Foxpro in for some repairs so that will keep me away too. Fishing will probably take over now as the ice melts. The Spinney opener is always on the calendar.
All you newbies should try and watch all the You Tube videos that are offered on yote hunting. There's tons of useful info there. The ones with the decoy dogs are amazing! Good Luck!

Petska Fur is the buyer I sell to. You can look up their website for routes and times where they are buying. They have a couple of different Colo. routes and many locations where they stop. I sold 11 more yesterday and averaged just under $35./ea. That was with one $20. coyote and one at $40., and everything else at $35.
All you have to do is freeze them whole if you don't want to skin them. This is how I do it. I have a chest freezer that I fill, because the fur buyer only comes through every two weeks. If you only skin them, leave the fur green, you only get another $2. But if you finish them out completely, they would be worth about 3 times the value.

How do you bag them up for the freezer? I don't think I could get 11 in my freezer. Do you spray for fleas? Do you thaw them for Petska?

You can throw some moth balls in the bag for fleas & mites.

trash bags, left open, no need to tie them shut. Only reason to bag them is to keep them from freezing together. I don't spray for flees, I don't thaw them out for the fur buyer. I have a chest freezer that I use solely for this purpose, but as cold as it's been lately, a guy doesn't need a freezer.
Several guys that I know have adopted the bag and freeze method. Even if a guy only killed ten all season and made one trip to see the fur buyer at the end of fur season, it would be worth it.
