    Default Glock Advice

I have a Springfield Xds 9mm that I bought for concealed carry last year and never really ended up using it for that purpose. I've been bringing it to the range for target shooting and it really isn't accurate enough to have fun practicing with beyond 7 yards. I've been thinking about getting a Glock because Ive never had one and I like the simplicity and customization options that I've heard about with Glocks.

For range use, I'd like something full sized. I'm leaning towards a Glock 17, 17L, or 34. Any recommendations for a primarily range use and self defense weapon for the house? Has anyone bought the 17 and wished for the 34 or 17L instead? How about used versus new? Used Glocks seem to go for about $50 less than new. Do people generally ask too much for them? Gen3 versus Gen4? LGS recommendations in Colorado for new Glocks?

Thanks for for any advice and sorry if this topic has been beaten to death.

Keep in mind getting standard capacity magazines for the 17/34 is technically against state law. A full size 9mm with ten round magazines just seems a little silly to me. I'd actually recommend a model 19. Small enough for carry yet large enough for range use and the standard fifteen round magazines are still easy and legal to get here. Gen 3 or 4 is really a matter of personal preference. I like the frame texture on the gen 4 but the other features don't really appeal to me personally.

I would encourage you to try before you buy if you can. I love everything about Glocks but like many I can't shoot them worth a crap. They are not for everyone.

Sound advice, I'm the opposite and shoot Glocks better than anything else. I'm also with Ray on the Glock 19.

Totally agree with this one. I have serious difficulty shooting a standard Glock. A lot of shooting ranges have them for rent.

These guys make limiters to restrict mag capacity.

    Kinda expensive though.

    I second this.

And this. I shoot Glocks better than any other handgun, but lots of people don't. Find what works for you. If you're in Colorado Springs any time soon, give me a holler and we can make a quick trip to the range with my Glock 19.

    Sounds like a job for S&W M&P 9!!

Wife loves her G17...I can't shoot straight with it, loved the XD stuff and was ready to buy one until I got to try an M&P 9mm...love at first sight.

If you have to get a Glock the G19 seems like the best compromise between full size, and slight smaller for concealed. Wife has the G19 and shoots the crap outta it....and least 7k rounds down the pipe in a 2011 G17 and prolly 2k shot in the 2012 G19.

Handguns in general are very personal... Only G-Lock that felt right at all to me was a G20 (not the SF)... But when I tried an M&P with the large back strap, it fit like a glove (not OJ's)...

Try a few to see what fits, and what you shoot well...
