Apex Shield Carry Kit
Just got back from picking up my wife's M&P Shield from Ark. She's had the shield for almost a year and likes it a lot, but her accuracy with it wasn't great. She shot my similar sized ruger SR9c, and my 1911 much better. With the shield she was constantly low/left. I think the biggest difference was the trigger pull on the shield. Wasn't horrible, but had several places where you could feel it stacking. I had looked into the Apex carry kit, and decided to go for it.
Noah over at Ark gave me a good price including install. I probably could have handled the install, but part of the install involves removing/replacing the rear sight (to get the striker blocker). Noah came in early today to get the kit installed before he leaves for the shot show. Thanks again Noah!
The apex kit replaces the trigger return spring, the sear and sear spring, and the striker blocker and striker blocker spring. One of the major "steps" I could feel in the trigger was the trigger bar pushing up the striker blocker. After the kit, I can't even detect when the bar hits the blocker. The rest of the pull is smoother, a little lighter a little shorter, and less over-travel. The first trigger pull when we picked it up, it didn't seem that big a change, but after trying out one of the shields in the display case, the differences were very obvious. And after dry firing it, and comparing it to my sr9c trigger (which I've always loved) I think the shields trigger pull is now better.
She'll be hitting the range tuesday to see how she does with her new and improved shield.

I have the Apex duty/carry kit in my full size 9 (made April of 2013) and it is a noticeable improvement. I hope to get a Shield in the next month or so and plan on adding it to that. My son just got a no-thumb-safety Shield and while it has a better stock trigger than prior models we've shot it too will get the Apex.

yeah, the one in Noah's display case was a no-safety, and the apex was a good improvement over that one.
Of all the small 9mms she tried out when shopping for her gun, the shield's trigger was her favorite, but it still had plenty of room for improvement.

Nice review and explanation of that trigger kit. I'm picking my shield up tomorrow.
