Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.
I've read it the first issue. It's got some editing problems, but hopefully they'll work that out soon. There were some articles that were pretty good, but it seemed to require a little more focus.

^ yeah that's why I ordered 1 issue before committing to a subscription.

I've been reading it online, so I don't get to see all of the content of the print or Kindle mags. There is a TON of back articles on their website to browse through though.
At first I thought "What kind of hippie shit is this?" But it's really not. I like it and will probably get a Kindle subscription.
I used to have a sub.... Really enjoyed their articles and the covers. I think of it more as a tips and tricks guide for people looking to self sustain. I still carry along all my mags every move. I'd recommend it.
Been picking it up occasionally for the past few years and sometimes check up on it online. Massad Ayoob is a contributor & has some good articles.
I get the Kindle version. I haven't read them all but I read an article here and there. Very informative and entertaining.

I won a couple subscriptions of Backwoodsman about 10 years ago and have been getting it ever since. There are a lot of neat little tips and tricks. I've even purchased the past issue combined magazines and they have some interesting little projects I have tried. Another magazine that goes along with it is the Backwoods Home magazine.
I've been reading it for a couple years now. Other than the weird fascination with Homo Sasquatches, it's a decent mag.
