    Default cheap auto paint

Anyone get a beater car painted in the denver area that could refer me to a shop?

I guess the days of the $199 paint job are gone, called a few maaco locations (they are franchises) and their cheapest service is $450 these days.

Just saw a car that I'm fairly sure was probably a bit of a sanddown and otherwise drawn it in semigloss spray paint. Took me a half second to notice it, so pretty good for ghetto rattlecan job. (I'd hate to think how pricey that'd be even in cheap rattlecans, maybe was a brush job.)

Yes, but he's up north. Think he's 2 weeks out at this time.

We had an older neighbor who used to roll her car every spring with a 2" roller. She used oil based, exterior house paint. She didn't sand but she did wash the car and let it dry before painting. Obviously, the car was no showroom piece, but she didn't have any major rust problems and that was something given how much salt they used on the roads in Maryland.

I have never tried it, so can only report second hand.

About ten years ago it was pretty popular to do DIY roll-on paint jobs in the auto community. With appropriate time taken, they come out not half bad (considering what you're actually doing). Most everyone would pick some flat color and go to town. I actually saw a car with that DIY paint job just the other day.

Actually if you do the prep work such as final block sanding etc I have seen halfway decent paint jobs from the cheapies like Maaco. A wet sand and buff can work wonders.
Given the fact that some paints can run hundreds of dollar per gallon $450.00 to paint a car is cheap.
