Default Field Dressing and Butchering Wild Game

Hey all, I'm really interested in getting more into hunting and game preparation, but I've never had someone there to "show me the way it's done." Mom freaked out when I was old enough to go hunting with Dad (strangely about the same time that all the guns went missing in the house) and never had the opportunity to go with friends or family. Anybody out there have helpful advice, or better yet, be willing to grace a stranger with your wisdom? I'll happily bribe you for your time with things like food, beer, ammo, etc. :-)

YouTube is one resource. You can find more videos than you care to watch about field dressing. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out a way to practice this skill until you are faced with doing it in the field. Best case would be to find someone experienced to go with you, but not many hunters seem willing to help out the newbies.

HBAR, that's a hell of a nice offer, good on you.
CactusSam, you should take that and run with it. I've eaten goat too, had it stir fried, it was excellent.

The practice goat sounds like a great idea! Never thought of that. Many years ago back in OK, some friends had a couple of goat roasts where a goat would be slow cooked like a pig in a big bbq, and it was better than you'd think. Especially after drinking all night waiting for it to get done!

Buy a goat with huge horns, take it out to the pawnee grasslands. Hunt it, skin it, cook it and have the head mounted.
Oh and take lots of pictures.....................

Shadow has never got over his fear of guns. At least not yet.

I want to take HBAR up on the offer just because I enjoy antagonizing my wife and seeing her squirm.

That is a good idea, education and dinner on the table. My first time was on a speed goat by myself, I watched a couple VHS tapes on game processing before I went but I made a mess. Would have been nice to see it done first. It is a good skill to have.
