Default .22 LR SVD! Ok, Homemade.

I had this airsoft SVD I got for my son last year and go to wondering if I could massage a Savage .22 into it......well after some work and a long weekend in the basement I came up with this.
I was able to figure out how to get the stripped Savage action to mount securely with only on tapped mounting spot on the receiver that wont affect the appearance if removed. The SVD took most of the work. Little filing here and there. The fake mag cover was maybe the trickiest part, cut and grind until it worked. It slips right over the factory 10 rd. It is purely for looks. I have not fired it though. The barrel was originally 16.5" so I extended it with a threaded portion that is much wider then .22LR. I plan of locating a 20" barrel and replace it. The joint is right under the gas piston were it attaches to the barrel. Other than that it functions dry charging and the safety still function. The SVD safety goes up and down but is just for looks.
I weathered it with some steel wool afterwards. Future upgrades are some real wood furniture, AIRSOFT stuff of course......thats if this works well.
    Thoughts?
Yes that is a 7.62X54R casing extending the charging handle. I modded it for my son so he can use his whole hand to charge to the rear. The original was very small and tough for larger hands.

Sounds like a fun little project. Sorry I can't hardly make anything out in the pictures. Maybe you could get some in better lighting in a day or two and post them up?

Very Nice. Might have FTE & FTF with the weight of the 54R case on there. If it doesn't work, consider using a section of Al cleaning rod. If you don't have one of the thicker / shot gun sections, pm me i have a few i could send you.

I will test it this weekend.
The 54 casing does not effect the operation of the original rifle, my son has shot tons of ammo with it. Just better for him to charge it.
Fun project because of all problem solving as well as the challenge of "Can I do It?"
I had seen a guy online do it with a Marlin Model 60 Tube feed rifle.
I figured I could do better.

Took it to Cheyenne MT. Shooting Complex at Ft. Carson today and it shot great!!
Different ammo was shot and Federal Fresh Seal can .22 worked best.
I was hitting nice groups at 25 meters and the barrel issue I was concerned about was not an issue at all.
