    Default Another Contractor Needed Thread

My searches and contacts have come up dry, so I'm posting a new thread.

We're looking to turn the lower level of our tri-level into a "mother-in-law apartment" (knock out a wall, replace the hall tile & bedroom carpet with wood or tile), and insulating / heating / cooling the garage.

    Anyone know anyone? The
"mother-in-law apartment" portion has unfortunately become a huge priority due to my father-in-law's quickly deteriorating health & we want her to be able to move in as seamlessly as possible.

    Thank you.

I don't have a recommendation, but could be facing a similar situation at any time, so please post results when you get this done. I've seen a mother-in-law apartment done poorly where the water lines were run through the attic and thus froze and burst and soaked the house. You shouldn't have that issue since this is the lower level, but make sure you go over plans to make sure they don't cut corners on things like that.

Sorry about that, man - it's rough, isn't it?

To clarify, the bathroom is there, so there's no issue there. The biggest issue is knocking out the wall - I think it might be load-bearing. We're fine if a post or two needs to be there.

I've had really good success with homeadvisor.com lately.

His new company does not allow moon lighting. That's way to far for me to do as a side job.

I'm fairly certain I have it figured out insofar as the MIL apartment goes. The garage deal can wait for a bit.

Thanks again for the PMs and advice.
