Im thinking of jumping into the long range rifle game and Ive priced out some components one of which is obviously a rifle.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise I want to get a Rem 700 SPS Varmint and right now Remington has a $50 rebate through June which basically covers transfer fee and BG check. My question is: Is there a time of year or season when we generally see rifles like these go on sale? or see the best deals? I know we are talking about a roughly $500 rifle here but if I can save another $50-$100 by waiting until x month I will. Also what are you thoughts on buying a used version?

This is definitely uncharted territory for me but Im excited to learn about distance shooting and application.
