The only way to shoot at Ft Carson's Privately Owned Weapons (POW) range is to have a valid DoD ID card. There is no open shooting at any time for anyone not authorized to shoot at the POW range. Active duty, retirees and dependants 12 years or older are the only authorized users.
Anyone with a range card along with one additional ID card holder can open the range (two person concept for safety reasons). The range is open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset. The only times they are closed is if there is training on an adjacent range, or if construction or grass cutting is being conducted in the immediate vicinity of the range.
It is a really nice range (now) with ten covered shooting positions (with benches) with target berms marked at 7, 15, 25, 50, 100, 200, & 300 yards. They provide the target stands, chairs, staples, targets....almost everything except your weapon, ammo, hearing and eye protection. No shotguns with pellets (slugs OK) and no full auto. Not sure why the no full auto since it is an Army post, but those are the rules they have.
Now that I'm retired, I have a hard time finding people to go shoot with me, and taking my wife along to be the other ID card holder is like pulling teeth.
I know this one has been mentioned - but not on the map:

Also - Frontier Sportsman's Fountain location is about 15 miles further than it indicates - just FYI for those interested...

Yes, all guns need to be registered with the Provost Marshal and this can be done at the Motor Vehicle registration (open only weekdays, I think 8-4 or so). It takes about a week to get the paperwork back.
If the Privately Owned Range (Range 1) is open, you can shoot with a DoD card. To open the range, all you need is a range safety card. You can get one by attending a safety course on Saturday at Range Control (I think it's usually held at 1 pm). All you need is one person with a yellow Range Safety card and another DoD card holder to open the range.
Thanks for the details AAdvsr.
No worries. Just noticed I repeated some of what TennVol already stated about the range. A bit of a pain to register the weapons, but well worth it for the access to the excellent facilities. Open dawn to dusk.
Thanks for your efforts KL7 (and SA Friday for starting this project off), this is a great resource!
Need to add this range to your listing. Great place to go(full disclosure, I am member, and love it.).
