The only way to shoot at Ft Carson's Privately Owned Weapons (POW) range is to have a valid DoD ID card. There is no open shooting at any time for anyone not authorized to shoot at the POW range. Active duty, retirees and dependants 12 years or older are the only authorized users.

Anyone with a range card along with one additional ID card holder can open the range (two person concept for safety reasons). The range is open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset. The only times they are closed is if there is training on an adjacent range, or if construction or grass cutting is being conducted in the immediate vicinity of the range.

It is a really nice range (now) with ten covered shooting positions (with benches) with target berms marked at 7, 15, 25, 50, 100, 200, & 300 yards. They provide the target stands, chairs, staples, targets....almost everything except your weapon, ammo, hearing and eye protection. No shotguns with pellets (slugs OK) and no full auto. Not sure why the no full auto since it is an Army post, but those are the rules they have.

Now that I'm retired, I have a hard time finding people to go shoot with me, and taking my wife along to be the other ID card holder is like pulling teeth.
