If we're talking about some riots in "that part of town" well, I'm far enough away from "that part of town" that I'm not worried about it spilling over here ... and if it does then I live in a valley with many other armed people and we can block off our neighborhood much like what was described by another poster happening in New Orleans.

If we're talking about serious wide spread but likely short term and recoverable unrest (like a month or so), then it may be a little tougher but I still think we're pretty safe where we are (and again, my original point was the same as the 3 rules of Real Estate; location, location, location.)
Nailed it with "Location, Location, Location"

Unless there is some weird uprising against the upper-middle class, gainfully-employed Briargate area, I think I'm pretty safe from this type of thing. I can't imagine a situation where rioters would be coming into my neighborhood (short of the end of western civilization), but if they did, there is only 1 road in, and the whole neighborhood has 1/2 mile of open field all around it - pretty easily defensible.

Now, I'm moving to CA in 3 weeks (against my will, trust me), but the house we bought there is in a similar neighborhood, surrounded by farm fields, and several miles from the "bad" part of the small town that it is in. It'll be tough to get a feel for my neighbors there because people are afraid to openly talk about guns, and I suspect people probably don't openly talk about preps or anything like that with their new neighbors either. Time will tell. I'll be sure to report back to this subforum in a month or two with some feedback. I suspect that there are a lot prepared individuals in the area we are moving to (right between LA and San Fran), but I don't know who my neighbors will be. I think the statist chokehold and progressive policies have forced the gun industry and shooters to be much more resourceful in CA than the rest of the country, and places like Ares Armor and their middle finger to the ATF are encouraging.
