Default "Cheap" ACR's on the Market?

So I've seen ACR's are now selling with the online retailers for 1500 or so. Seems to me if Bushmaster had done this from the start, the outcome of this rifle might had been a little different. I've shot a few and liked them well enough, but never for the 2000+ price tag. Now the thought of a new one for 1500 seems a little tempting. Just to have something a little different. Could be fun to chuck up on the lathe and turn down the barrel, suppress, maybe SBR. Maybe even mod a barrel for 300 black. Fun project possibilities. To get one right now I might have to offload an AR, but that's no worry. I've got a few of them. Any thoughts out there?

The lower price makes them a lot more appealing. I've been interested in one, but I've worried about long term support/parts availability for the platform in the future. With those concerns I would probably be more likely to jump on it closer to $1200-1300, which may not happen.

Yeah, I agree. Long term support could be an issue. But a to a tinkerer like me, that sometimes is more of a fun challenge. If the price were at the 12-13 range, I'd have already gone for it. But meanwhile, its still tempting. Hmmmm. What to sell to get there is another question I've gotta ask myself. I've got a lot of stuff I'm willing to pair down. There are only about 8-10 in my collection that are on the never sell list. Right now I'm on a buy one/ sell one promise I made to myself. Either that or I gotta buy another safe. Who knew two wouldn't cut it?

I've been tempted by the lower prices as well. Sucks for the guys trying to sell used ones as they are now asking more then what I can get a new one for. :-)

I agree, if it dropped another $200 I would be all over it but still tempting at $1500. I just wish there was a little more aftermarket support for it. I hear the safety selector is a issue for a lot of folks but there is not a single aftermarket option available. I still may pull the trigger on one?

Damn, you guys are no help. You're just as indecisive as me.

I'm trying to talk myself out of it, but I've never been a good negotiator

Did they ever decide to offer a 1:7 variant for these? That was one of the few turn offs I had with them.

The 20" they are hawking now is 1:7. The cheap ones are the market right now seem to be 1:9. I had the thought that they may be trying to clear them out and start introducing something better. (1:7) Been doing some research and modding an AR barrel doesn't look too hard for someone with my dremel skills.

So... Just ordered a "Black Enhanced" version. Credit card didn't explode, Wifey might though.
