Needing some soil to fill and grade a section of property and I have no idea where one just gets a truck load of dirt.
Any recommendations?

Find a local dig and see if they're hauling it off site and far awy. They may be happy to make a dump or two closer to the site to save cost.
I got 900 cubic yards to level my backyard doing this.

Brutal has it right. Look for piles on sites. Evergreen is tough. If you were Denver local I'd hook you up.

If you are not looking for topsoil, fill dirt should be easy. Check with the contractors that are doing ditch clearing and excavating locally. Also, paving guys are usually looking to unload dirt as they are doing much of the ditch clearing as well. Just pay them for their time and travel. Just be patient and they will likely be able to help you out for a nominal cost. The trucking is the spendy part. Waving some cash at the county guys might get you what you need as well.

I have a half-ton full-size Ford pickup. I have put a ton of pavers in it in the past, but I don't feel comfortable putting more than about 2/3 of a yard of dirt in it. That is about 2/3 of its short bed.

several others on Craigslist. And free.
I just brought home about 11-12 tons of dirt; five tons in one trip with the trailer and another 6-7 tons with a few trips in the truck. I looked for ads on Craigslist where they had a loader. I just completed my erosion damage repair with this.
Elk Creek Sand and Gravel will deliver 15 tons of road base to my house for $322 (next project); about the same for fill dirt if they have it. You can check with them to see what delivery is for you.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
