These aren't the greatest but here we go:

#1 Drop camp (two man) in the Maroon Belles - no confirmation on the animal but listened to an intense moaning for 2+ hours. Positioned in a small bowl at treeline. The moaning would echo through the bowl VERY loudly. It sounded like the "death moan" you'll hear from bears but it was incredibly amplified. Not super comforting in the pre-dawn hours.

#2 Same drop camp in the Belles - walk out of the tent to relieve myself at dawn (I spent the previous day/night packing a bull back to camp); I had hung and laid the quarters on a vertical/diagonal log system (don't ask). I hear a small growl (think of a small puppy playing with a chew toy) and some scratching or clawing. I look over and see a Pine Martin trying to access one of the quarters. He couldn't get through the game bags. We were no more than 5 yds apart and that critter wouldn't move until I banged the ground with a large branch within 2 feet. He kept looking at me like "get the f&ck away from me". I really wish I would've taken a picture of this.

#3 Ontario, CAN - fly in private walleye camp. My buddy from college worked there during the summers. Some scratching at our remote cabin door resulted in my buddy running outside in his underwear with a 20 gauge firing in the air to scare the bear away. We had cooked a serious bunch of fish that night so I'll never blame the bear. That is something we all need to witness. Underwear and running in Canada.

#4 Taylors Park - after a long morning climb/hunt I take a seat to have a snack. I take a nap and wake up with a squirrel crossing my legs...yes, he ran across my legs. He sat next to me or around me for 15+minutes as he scrounged for food (I'm guessing when I snore it's not as loud as the wife says).

#5 WI Archery - similar to previous post, I had a bear evaluate my tree stand (ladder stand) more than I was comfortable with. A little pee-pee in the shorts. Good size bear in the 350+ range.

#6 MN Snowmobiling - Huge snow year. Saw a semi-carcass of a young deer leaning against a tree. It was obvious that the deer couldn't run the deep snow and was attacked/killed by coyotes. I wish I had a photo of that to send to the PETA folks. It was completely exhausted and the coyotes had their way while the animal was still alive. Disgusting.

I was goose hunting with a couple friends one morning when we spotted a fox about 100 yards away standing by an overgrown ditch line. He was checking out our decoy spread pretty intently so I grabbed a cottontail distress call (the only predator call I had in my bag at the time) and lit into it. As soon as he heard it he came into us at a dead run and pounced on one of our goose decoys about ten yards from our blind! He got quite the surprise when he realized it was a plastic decoy. When he figured it out he trotted back to the ditch line he came out of. My buddies and I laughed and figured that was the end of it. About an hour later a flock of snows flew over us, we folded two and sailed one to about 20 yards from where that fox had been. As soon as that goose hit the ground that fox was on him and dragged him into the weeds! I've shot more geese on a hunt but that one was one of the most memorable!

    Sorry about the long post.

That is funny! I have had a coyote slink around the brush of a field checking out the goose spread, but it left the area in a hurry. Thought I was going to have a new way to decoy coyotes!

Duck hunting on the edge of a large lake we had decoys all setup long before day light and we hunkered down in the blinds. We had either an owl or a hawk swoop down and nail a decoy twice in about 5 minutes. Really freaky being in black darkness and just hearing something whiz by and then plunge your decoy under the water. Never saw any holes or scratches in the decoys so we were thinking it must have been a smaller owl that couldn't grasp around the body of the decoy very well.

Why? To grab the chicken he just chased across the road?

Not really the weirdest thing but I ran across a mountain lion walking back to camp in the dark. He was about 40yrds from me and I couldn't scare him off so i took off back to camp.

I saw the smallest Elk in the history of the universe this year. It was about 1/4" from rump to snout. No joke.

While we were gutting my cow, my friend and hunting buddy reached down and grabbed the uterus. He pulled out a tiny nearly clear placenta, about the size of a nickel. Inside it was a miniaturized embryonic Elk.... it was both cool and sad, but mostly cool. I should have taken pictures of it.

Found a doe pinned to a tree from an arrow. It was there for several weeks, surprised the predators hadn't gotten to it. Found a dead horse, extremely bloated laying on its back with legs straight up in the air. Quite comical, perhaps it belonged to the saddle/tack the previous poster found.

    cheers,
    Tim
