These aren't the greatest but here we go:
#1 Drop camp (two man) in the Maroon Belles - no confirmation on the animal but listened to an intense moaning for 2+ hours. Positioned in a small bowl at treeline. The moaning would echo through the bowl VERY loudly. It sounded like the "death moan" you'll hear from bears but it was incredibly amplified. Not super comforting in the pre-dawn hours.
#2 Same drop camp in the Belles - walk out of the tent to relieve myself at dawn (I spent the previous day/night packing a bull back to camp); I had hung and laid the quarters on a vertical/diagonal log system (don't ask). I hear a small growl (think of a small puppy playing with a chew toy) and some scratching or clawing. I look over and see a Pine Martin trying to access one of the quarters. He couldn't get through the game bags. We were no more than 5 yds apart and that critter wouldn't move until I banged the ground with a large branch within 2 feet. He kept looking at me like "get the f&ck away from me". I really wish I would've taken a picture of this.
#3 Ontario, CAN - fly in private walleye camp. My buddy from college worked there during the summers. Some scratching at our remote cabin door resulted in my buddy running outside in his underwear with a 20 gauge firing in the air to scare the bear away. We had cooked a serious bunch of fish that night so I'll never blame the bear. That is something we all need to witness. Underwear and running in Canada.
#4 Taylors Park - after a long morning climb/hunt I take a seat to have a snack. I take a nap and wake up with a squirrel crossing my legs...yes, he ran across my legs. He sat next to me or around me for 15+minutes as he scrounged for food (I'm guessing when I snore it's not as loud as the wife says).
#5 WI Archery - similar to previous post, I had a bear evaluate my tree stand (ladder stand) more than I was comfortable with. A little pee-pee in the shorts. Good size bear in the 350+ range.
#6 MN Snowmobiling - Huge snow year. Saw a semi-carcass of a young deer leaning against a tree. It was obvious that the deer couldn't run the deep snow and was attacked/killed by coyotes. I wish I had a photo of that to send to the PETA folks. It was completely exhausted and the coyotes had their way while the animal was still alive. Disgusting.
