Ruger precision Rifle

Quite a few YouTube videos too. The more I see/read about this rifle, the more I want one in 6.5 Creedmore. An appropriate optic will probably cost more than the rifle.

For entry level, there are a few I would consider that would be similar in cost to the rifle.

But, yes, most would be at least double the cost of the rifle.

I'm in the same boat as you, I really want to add one to the safe, chambered in 6.5 Creedmore.

There's probably 1 or 2 pieces of glass in my parts room that might be within your range.

Burris XTR II is an excellent optic in the right price range. I just ordered one for another application, but in the back of my mind I see it going on one of theses one day when my kids are older.

I do not yet have a precision rifle in the stable yet and am worried that if someone finds out, my man-card could be revoked. A precision rifle is next on the list (followed by an AR-10) and this could be a strong contender for me. I'm hoping that by the time I can scrape together the cash, enough people will have put it through its paces to highlight any deficiency.

As I would probably take it out to a PR match a few times a year, I think I would just go with a .308 version just due to availability/cost of the ammo. (Actually, truth be told, my wife wants a nice precision rifle as much, if not more, than me. I think she would probably do a few matches a year too.)

Question for the knowledgeable crowd-
Why the different barrel lengths for the different calibers? Can anybody throw me a quick lesson on that out of curiosity.

Generally speaking, the 3 listed calibers all have similar 308ish case capacity, as the bore size is reduced you generally need a longer barrel to achieve a similar level of powder burn / gas expansion.

Edit: I used generally twice as this is impacted by multiple factors including powder burn profile and projectile resistance in the bore.

Fundamentally the rifle is an expansion chamber with the volume being set based on bore diameter and length.

secondary reason I think I would go with the 20"/.308 is because I haven't collected any stamps lately an I think this would be begging for something. The shorter barrel I think would complement a suppressor nicely.

I hear some people getting them allegedly, but are these actually really available or is it going to be the m&p shield and be a ghost for a while or 2x msrp

Yeah, I've seen the article in the American Rifleman magazine. I've never used a Ruger rifle so I don't know what the "problems" there used to be. However, out of the 7 or so articles I've read, the reception seems to be very positive. I have no need for specialty calibers so I'm very interested in the .308 version... but it'll have to wait like everything else in my life, lol.

There are some available on gun broker and dealers that knew the deal ahead of time seem to have gotten their hands on them through pre-orders so it seems to be in full production as of release dates, once the hoopla dies down a bit I'm sure availability won't be an issue. As there seems to be quite a few in the pipeline already. Honestly I'd look at stores like sportsman's for now and or get an order in with your local shop and wait for it to come in, or just wait out the storm for now.
