If Microsoft was HQ'd in Georgia rather than Washington state, you would be using Winders and your computer would go to sleep in the middle of the day when it was real hot outside. I'm sure the default sounds with the OS would be better as well.

Have you turned the machine off and then turned it back on again?

If that didn't fix it, switch to linux.
