    Default 40X Repeater Options

Looks like there are three options just recently released.

Stiller is making a 700 pattern receiver that takes Savage mags. The receivers are commercial.

Primal Rights is looking for people to sign up for a conversion that they would batch together if enough people sign up. Uses Marlin mags.

Ravage88 has a plans that he will send out to have the conversions done by your own smith. Uses a proprietary mag.

Ravage88 conversion is the BlackOps conversion from a couple of years ago. I don't know the whole story, and I can't find the old posts on The Hide- but long delays and lawsuits. I know Hoser looked at having this conversion, but the rifle didn't get done. Someone else here had the conversion done, but I forgot who it was? Since BlackOps isn't involved and your choice of smith can be used, does anyone have experience with the conversion from an engineering sense?

Hoser, have you given up on conversions?

That stiller looks like a winner to me, but I don't already own a 40X. From a purely cost perspective it's probably the best option if you don't already own one. a 40X for a donor rifle isn't exactly cheap and with the stiller the conversion work is already done and you just need to build the rifle out from there. That said if you've got a 40X already, then I'd be looking hard at the conversion Drawings/mags from Ravage 88 and having Chad @ LRI do the work since he's been around the rimfire block more than most.

That Ravage88 conversion looks neat if you want it to go in your stock that takes acis mags. I suppose it all depends on what you are planning to do with it.

I very much would like to have my 40X modded.

I shot the Primal Rights 40X last weekend when at a LR steel match in Nebraska. Travis Stevens, gunsmith who is doing the machining, brought it to the match. Fed perfect, fit/finish of the modded BDL bottom metal/mag release in the McMillan stock was very nice, I've shot with Travis a couple times in other matches, talented gunsmith, stand up guy. Would trust sending my 40X to Travis and Greg (Primal Rights).

Local shooter I know had Mike Bush/Black OPS/Ravage88, mod his 40X. Works great. He had ordered I believe 5 mags and only got one. long delay getting his rifle back.... I contacted Josh Kunz, one of the gunsmiths on the list. Josh ordered 10 mags for me, we both agreed we will not pay for the mags until they are in my hands and I can check them on my buddies 40X. I'm not holding my breath! Josh has chambered rifles for two friends, I'm confident in Josh's work, his integrity.

Ravage88 showed a box of mags body halves that we're going to be done soon. That is the major hang up I have form that mod is that the mag is unique. I. Think he argues that the mag is actually optimized for this application. The other is that the design and plans is from one house, the fabrication is done by someone else. The major plus is that Ravage says that George Garnder of GAP has one and has over 10,000 rounds thru it.

Glad to hear that you liked the Primal one, the issue I have is the group buy and wait, but that is pretty small.

I am patiently waiting for the ravage conversion.

Time will tell. I know I don't want to get the receiver chopped on only to not get mags...

It be like Bruce Jenner getting the Dick-ectomy, but not having the cash for the inversion.

I contacted Ravage (Mike?), and he said the mags were out being welded and that I could buy some before getting 'cut'. I just want to have them and play with them a bit.

Hoser, you got any smith in mind for the conversion, or have you broken down and finally got your own milling machine? Maybe bunching some rifles would move things along.

Nope. Waiting to see if Mike actually delivers mags to anyone.

No mags yet for the Ravage88 , still promises that they'll come. He is working up a jig so smiths have an easier time with the conversion. I'm waiting for the mags to become available and a builder to price out the conversion before I get excited.

The Stiller action looks interesting. From what I read the action's use of savage mags means that chassis like the AI AT may have to be mod'd to fit the magazine usage. The bolt shaving lead off the top round in the mag seems to be an issue that can be easily addressed. The stiller is being offered in complete rifles from Europtic.

The Primal rights mod's were supposed to have their sign up time end on Oct 1, but I don't see any notification if the minimum of deposits was received to move forward. Also, it seems the pricing for the conversion isn't public? You get in (I don't know how far) and they'll tell you how much it is. I guess if you have to ask the price.....

I'm still in a holding pattern till the Ravage conversion mag and smithing issue comes to completion- but I guess that is the question. I would have thought that process would be further along. Who knows if the Primal Rights option is going forward. The Stiller seems to need some carving on chassis.

It seems that the three options are all trying to cock & (b)lock each other. All I can tell is that the stiller one is the only live commercial option right now.

    That's my read on things.

So, almost 2 months later and there hasn't been a lot of movement. The Primal Rights one hasn't had any info posted about whether it is going forward (there was a minimum number of sign ups needed go forward). The Stiller action looks nice, but it seems that some stocks need to be modded to allow the magazine to be used. The Ravage88 still isn't shipping mags and there are no smiths yet saying that they are accepting rifles for modding.

Europtic is going to sell some Manner's stocks with Stiller actions..

    That's my read on it.
