Got'em. Pretty solid. No flex, but considering that they are the size of 308 mags, it would almost be hard not to be . Everything seems to move and glide easily. Fit in my AICS and locks up tight, but I can't judge feeding or anything else yet.
I'll stop buying black rifles when my wife stops buying black shoes.
Talked to dtros yesterday, he got 3 mags for his already Mike Bush converted 40X. Says they look great, better then the one original mag he has, he'll test them soon. I'll post his results.
Also talked to my gunsmith yesterday, Jonathon Elrod about doing my conversion. He contacted Mike Bush, got all the CAD drawings, programming, models.... for the conversion. Jonathon just gave them a quick peak, so far says it looks easy. He's going to study the info this weekend and let me know. Jonathon has been a machinist for years, owner of a high end CNC machine shop, he's chambered my last 4 barrels, all shoot lights out. Most importantly I trust him with my 40X.
Is he local to Colorado?
I think I'll fire up the dremel and take whack at it. How hard can it be?
To me, this is all about degrees of freedom. That was my point with Mike on THe Hide. It sounds like he has taken out a lot of variability on the mag side. To me the question is how much jiggle the conversions will have. I don't have any actual knowledge of what the cuts are. Throw in Chassis variation and I get nervous- mainly because it can become a three way firing circle of Mike (design), Mike (mags), the smith and the chassis. If you have issues..... I assume Mike will help out, but we all know what assuming does.
That is my low information, high interest view point.

I ran the new mags in dtros's converted 40X, feeds perfect! Also took his barreled action out his McMillan stock/Badger BM and put it in my AICS, feeds perfect! Mags look great. Hoser, the glass is getting half full, dtros's rifle rocks!
There's two ways to do this conversion. Buy a "kit" from Mike, includes bolt nose, extractor, firing pin.....Advantage it's easier. Disadvantage maybe the head space is off, would need to push a reamer into the chamber? The other option is to have our existing parts machined (dtros's conversion was done that way) no change in head space. Supposedly the kits will be available soon, who knows what that means?
Sending Jonathon (jelrod1 on the hide) my 40X and dtros's converted barreled action soon. I'll post updates about what he's going to charge and other details.....
What is he going to do to Dtros' action?
