I don't want to discourage the OP too much, but this^^^ (would be Utah for me). I cannot wait for the day I can get the heck outta dodge! I'm a Colorado native, but have only lived in the metro area for a decade now, and hate what it has become. Everything from the politics, to the traffic, to the cost of living (including MV registration and associated crap) have all made me want out of here. Fortunately my new gig pretty much opens up the whole US for me.
Back on topic.... OP, we could certainly use more gun folks around here, but the truth is, we are fighting a battle right now, as it pertains to "shooting spots". The forests to the west of the metro area, are not the same as they were when I moved here ten years ago. In past years, I had a couple spots I could go to less than an hour from Denver, rarely were they occupied (even on the weekend), and there was rarely evidence of shooting. Those same spots today are always occupied, even during the week (don't people work?), and the last few times I was out, I ended up carrying out a bunch of trash, to include a flat screen TV, and several trees had literally been shot down. Because of this lack of responsibility, there are talks of closing shooting in all but designated locations. Just something to keep in mind, as far as your "where to shoot" question is concerned.
